HOW TO REWARD GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP

Knute Rockne, former football coach of Notre Dame, said “One man practising good sportsmanship is far better than 50 others preaching it.”

How important good sportsmanship is while you are playing a sport! Is it sportsmanship only confined up to the sports? Do we apply sportsmanship in our whole life other than sports?

Before telling anything about sportsmanship, I would like to clarify that sportsmanship is nothing but an obligation to the rules of sports. We make various rules in a sport just to conduct sports in organized ways.

It makes sense that winning or losing in a game is an outcome, and it never persists because when one game ends, and we start playing a new game, a winner of the last game may prove the loser in the next game or vice versa.

In other words, our status of success or failure may change over time. Therefore, we must not lose our temper or admirations to other participants, opponents & their fans, teammates, coaches, and officials organizing the sports events.

We have to respect everyone in and out of sports. Obey the rules of sports with equal zeal each time it needed the most.

You believe it or not, but the same sportsmanship is applicable & anticipated in our real-life. It means tolerance, respect, and friendly behaviour in life are the most sought-after characteristics of someone’s personality. Real-life Examples of Good Sportsmanship

Shaking Hands with Opponents.

Once the game is over, players must shake hands with opponents. It is a common rule in the world of sports. You may have a question that why is it? The reason is pretty obvious because there is no place of arrogance in the game.

In due course, a player must show his or her admiration/friendliness to others, and shaking a hand is the first step towards it.

Helping Opponents.

If possible, you as a player take one step ahead and can extend the helping hands to anyone in the opposite team whenever they needed. It can increase sympathy and feeling of friendliness in the hearts of your opponents as well as whoever has witnessed it.
Take Care of Injured One

A player must remember that play is for fun & healthy competition. It is not a war at all. So, the injury of anyone in any team must become a matter of concern for all. Each player must take care to avert any possible injury to anyone while playing. If accidentally it occurs, first aid must be a priority then.

Honour the Decision of Referees

Fortunately, today we have the latest technologies to get a replay of the past moments in a game. So, we are not solely relying on human referees. Otherwise, sports rules force all players to strictly obey the instructions and accept all decisions taken by them.

Playing Is Everyone’s Right

We know grasping of game skills greatly differs from individual-to-individual. It means a team may have weaker players in some skills. Now, it becomes the duty of stronger ones to take care of weaker players when critical moments come into play.

No Jealousy

Become zealous is the nature of human beings. Unfortunately, we play sports with an aim of complete tolerance and expect broad-hearted and broad-minded game-play. So, no jealousy at all. Throw it and give place to friendliness instead in your heart while playing any sports.

Encourage Excellence

Unbiased gameplay is only possible when each player in the game is ready to encourage excellent play even done by the opponents and should give that player/s congratulation for the best performance.

No Cheating

Yes, cheating in any game is completely prohibited. If anyone found guilty, he/she must be punished as per the laws of the game, including temporary suspension of a long-term ban.

No Blaming

Blaming others or creating excuses is a sign of weak psychology. So, it must prohibit the players. Every player should accept failure and apologize for it instead of blaming others for any mistake or failure.
